Week 3 | 06/09/2021 : User persona
In this week, Mr Mike will show us some example of user persona and how important to come out with  a useful user persona to help create reliable and realistic representation of our key target audience.

Week 4 | 13/09/2021 : 
From this week onward, we will not have any lecture but we have weekly consultation for our working progression.

FERTILITY WEBSITE PROJECT
Week 4 - week 15 | 13/09/2021 - 03/12/2021 :
In this project, we are working as mixed group of multidisciplinary skills to present an innovative concept to our target audience. We were required to conduct research on the target audience to understand their needs to form insight into their actual problem.

After the briefing, we got to choose which topic that we are interested to work on. Therefore, I chose fertility website project which is about pregnant women.

Our client is Dr Uma. Our client request to change the client's brief from women health to her specialization and we all agreed. The purpose of the website is to raise awareness of infertility as well as to bring more convenient to target audience during and after the pandemic.

Then, we will be working together with other course which is computing student. 

After the briefing and meeting, we started to do research about the topic of pregnant women such as the treatment, mental health, Covid-19,  symptoms and signs and so on.

After we done the research, we all compile everything and categorize it. Then, we do more research to have a better understanding of infertility such as the causes, topic of male and female, type of treatment.

After we completed the research and gathered sufficient information, we will proceed to come out with user persona and interview/survey questions for our target audience.

Followed by the interview questions, we have came out with a list of question and we'll need to categorize it. Since infertility is considered as a sensitive and private topic, we will need to send all the questions to our client Dr Uma to help us check and finalize the questions to make sure there's no inappropriate questions that would invade people's privacy. Below is the progression interview questions :

This is the feedback that we got from our client regarding the survey questions and design direction.

After we had make the amendment, our lecture suggest us to join some fertility Facebook group and get approval from the group admin to share the survey questions to more people. The reasons that we join Facebook group is because there will be a lot of our target audience such as pregnant women and parents.

Below is the result of the survey :

After the data has gathered, our group moved on to insight discovery. We were required to come out with 5 ideas based on our research and the survey results,  After we completed, we categorize the ideas and then come out with 3-5 insight statements. 

Insight statement :
  • Users want accurate and easy access to information on infertility to take care of themselves and remain healthy.
  • Users want to have support during the IVF treatment cycle.
  • Users want to have more knowledge on the types of treatment that helps with infertility.
  • Users want to educate themselves in order to be resilient against hardships they may face when going through IVF treatments and be able to reach out to people who are going through similar situations.
  • Certain users are distressed by weight gain from IVF treatment.
  • Certain users want to know how to lose weight after IVF treatment.

Followed by the problem statement :

Problem statement : Infertile individuals and couples need to be better informed about infertility because their physical and mental health may be greatly affected during and after the pandemic.

Therefore, we proceed with how might we after our group has finished with the problem statement.

How might we statement :
  • How might we provide support for couples/parents so tha they 'll better cope with pregnancy during the pandemic and after?
  • How might we support the infertile individuals and couples to manage their pregnancy and life during the pandemic and after?
  • How might we raise awareness and teach infertile individuals and couples about how to prevent infertility, as well as vaccination and pregnancy and be open about it?

After we got the feedback from our lecture, we can proceed with the user journey map. We made a lot of changes because we all are giving different ideas and the map looks messy. After discussion, below is the finalized version of the user journey map.

Then, we proceed to come out with a proposal to present it to our client. Below is the proposal slide :

After we had done all the research and got the confirmation from our client, we move on to design the website as well as to come out with animated videos, posters, ads and banner.

Since my specialized in Graphic Design, I will be responsible to develop the art direction for the whole project such as the colour palette, typeface, graphic elements in ads/posters/banner, website asset and so on.

Week 1 | 23/08/2021 :
In the first week, we had our module briefing and we started our project in Miro board. We did research to have a deeper understanding about pregnant women who have COVID 19 as well as other topics that are related to pregnant women such as vaccination, mental health and physical health issues. Therefore, we had our first meeting with computing students to introduce ourselves to each other and also, we discussed our task and role for this project.

Week 2 | 30/08/22021 :
In the second week, we all have to finalize all the information in the Miro board and get approval from Mr Mike to make sure we are on the right track so that we can proceed to the next step. Then, we came out with a few questions about the website features as well as the questions for pregnant women interview on Friday 03/09/2021. Mr Mike will check on our questions and give us some suggestions for the questions. After all, we had met with the computing group and Dr Uma for the questions regarding the website. Unfortunately,  Dr Uma said the target audience is infertility women which means, we all have to change everything and do research again over the new topic. During our second meeting this weekend, we added new info and also prepared new questions about infertility for our client.

Week 3 | 06/09/2021 :
In week 3, we first had a meeting with computing students on Monday (06/09/2021) to discuss the requirements on the website such as languages and also to update our progression and feedback from Dr Uma. Then, Mr Mike suggested to include topics like COVID 19 and vaccination since this is a very interesting point and is needed nowadays. Sherman has emailed Dr Uma to let her know we will make the changes and to get her confirmation. Therefore, we worked together in MiroBoard and we came out with a lot of personas. After the discussion, we concluded our persona into four and also we came out with interview questions. Since Dr Uma hasn't replied to us on the changes, we will need to inform Mr Mike during  the lecture class this Friday (10/09/2021), and we were told to proceed and finalize our persona based on our target audience. Then, we have a group meeting on Saturday (11/09/2021) in Discord to finalize our empathy questions and also to start thinking about what information and features should be included in the website.

Week 4 | 13/09/2021 :

This week, we had consultation with Mr Mike for our survey and interview questions and helped us to rephrase some of it before we could send it out. After consultation, we finalize our questions into a Google doc and add them all into google form and send it out. On Friday (17.09.2021), we had another consultation session with Mr Mike and he suggested that we add one more male persona since infertility is both male and female topic. Therefore, we showed the responses of the survey and Mr Mike said the number of responses are quite good. However, most of the participants are single and aged between 18-25, we should collect more data from people who are interested in the topic of infertility. Then, Mr Mike suggested we join some Facebook groups that are related to our topic to get more replies. The girls and I joined a group each and texted the admins to get their approval before we post the link of the survey into the group. On Saturday (18.09.2021), our group had a meeting in Discord to come out with interview questions for male regarding infertility and we did all this on Miroboard.


Week 5 | 20/09/2021 :

This week we had consultation with Mr Mike on Monday (10.09.2021), we went through the survey responses and we still do not have enough data from the age group that we targeted. Then, Mr Mike suggest us to join some Facebook group to get more replies from patients. Each girl in our group joined one group. I managed to join an IVF and Infertility group but I did not get replies and approval from the admin to post the survey into the group. After that, we proceed to work with the key themes and insight statements. On Wednesday night (22/92/2021) we had a meeting to complete and finalize the key theme and insight statements. On Thursday (23/09/2021), we had a meeting with SCE students and Dr Uma to discuss about the pricing of the website and also, we had to ask some questions according to our interview. Dr Uma agree and told us that she is able to bring four patients for our interview session. On the next day Friday (24/09/2021), we had consultation with Mr Mike and he had reviewed our insight discovery and problem statements. We will need to make some adjustment and rephrase our problem statement and how might we.


Week 6 | 27/09/2021:
In this week, we had consultation and Mr Mike went through our problem statement and insight discovery on Monday (27/09/2021). We were required to make many changes on How Might We as they all are too general, we need to think more in depth such as the solution. Then, Mr Mike advised us to keep communicating with the SCE students every week, to make sure all the information is clear. Then, we move on to create our journey map. On Friday (1/10/2021) we got the interview questions and some design requirements and samples from Dr Uma. We began to discuss the next task and our team divided into two groups - one is UI/UX design group and another one is animation design group. Then, we start adding our tasks into a google sheet which is a timeline for our project execution.

Week 7 | 04/10/2021 :

This week, we had a consultation with Mr Mike to update the touchpoints of the website after we had the meeting with the SCE team. Therefore, we also got feedback from Mr Mike according to our proposal presentation slides. There are things that should be reorganized such as the flow of info, personas, the user journey map should be summarized. Friday night (8.10.2021), we had a meeting with Dr Uma to present our proposal slides. Dr Uma was happy with the ideas but, there are some adjustments we still need to do for the logo design. 


Week 8 | 11/10/2021 :
This week is independent learning week. We had a meeting with SCE students on Monday to update our progress and feedback from Dr Uma as well. Therefore, we also got  to discuss wordpress. Then, everything went smoothly and we met on Wednesday to update each other on our progression such as website layout, logo design and also animation design.

Week 9 | 18/10/2021 :
This week, the graphic team will work on the logo for the website. Therefore, we were required to come out with posters and assets for the website such as buttons, nav bar and icons. Then, we prioritize the logo since we have already shown Dr Uma, we need to get it done as soon as possible. After we finalized the logo, we continued to work with the posters. We came out with three sub topics : IVF, Vaccination and Pregnancy, Infertility. We decided to go with a soft pastel colour with mixed media design. This weekend, we started to draft out our ideas for posters that we had planned. We each have come out with three sketches then we will have to decide on which we’d move forward with.

Week 10 | 25/10/2021  :
This week, we had consultation with Mr Mike, feedback and suggestions have been given. Mr Mike points out a lot of problems in the posters which we don't realize at the very beginning such as the point size and also the size of the logo and Graphic elements are too big. Therefore, Mr Mike suggests we use A3 for the posters and he wants to see improvement on the next class. Then I realized that the design direction of the posters are totally different because different people have different art directions. Then, we have to choose to go with either modern line design or curvy design. On Friday (29/10/2021), we had a meeting with Mr Mike, he suggested that we have to make sure the logo can be placed on a variety of different color backgrounds and it’s readable. Move on to the assets, there is no problem with the design but we might need to make some changes for the colour after we have come out with the prototype.

Week 11 | 01/11/2021 :
Monday, we had a consultation with Mr Mike to update our progress. For the logo, it still can’t be placed in a different colour background because the text will not be readable. He showed us the example of Spotify on how and why they design their logo in different colours and positions. We were required to come out with the black and white version of the logo, and also come out with the horizontal and vertical version (different position of the logotype). Move on to the posters design, the graphic element (curve) should refine it to be more elegant to make sure the design quality of the posters. Then, we would need to explore more variation and to push ourselves hard to come out more, especially the graphic team.

Week 12 | 08/11/2021 :
This week, we managed to finalize the logo and also the waves for the posters. We decided to go with the pink version of the logo but the logotype has to be changed into white so that it is visible when placed on a pink background. For the waves, I create a few versions of it - Gradient, solid colour with low opacity. We try to apply it on the poster and to make some adjustments to see if it look nice. Then, we had a consultation with Mr Mike for our posters, logo, animation video and 3D space. We will need to make some refinements for the logo and posters so that it looks visible, soft and elegant. For the 3D space, everything was all right and we will need to decide one 3D space to present our project. For the animation video, Mr Mike said it is excellent and we did more than what we expected.

Week 13 | 15/11/2021 :
Monday, we have almost done with everything and just need to wait for our client’s confirmation. We had a consultation with Mr Mike to show our 3D spatial presentation. There are some bugs and we will need to fix. Then, we will also need to decorate the conference room and make sure the design suits our persona. After the consultation we moved to group discussion and we have decided to create some variations of color of the website to let our client choose which one she prefers. On Wednesday, we received the comments from Dr Uma. The human race of the posters are fine but, there are some problems with the contact section and the website link also needs to be changed. Followed by the website, the purple versions stand out nicer, but Dr Uma suggests that we can try using pastel pink and see how it looks. For the animated video it is fine, just the pronunciation needs to be improved.

Week 14 | 22/11/2021 :
Monday, we had a consultation with Mr Mike to update our progression. We show the progression of our final presentation deck, Mr Mike has given some feedback and provided senior’s work for us as a reference. There are some details that need to be refined for the logo, to make it into a perfect circle. Then, the graphic team will need to help out with the website to create the waves as well as to make sure the visual hierarchy of the website. Followed by the 3D space, the design and layout are fine, just to make sure that the graphics all stick on to the wall instead of leaving a gap there. The whole team is encouraged to participate in the 3D space since it is for all of us. During Friday's consultation, we are running out of time and Mr Mike has to leave to go to the other group’s meeting. We were required to show our progress on next Monday.

FEEDBACK

Week 2 : 
1. Come out with the questions about the website features as well as questions for pregnant women.
2. The main target audience is infertility women not pregnant women.
3. Questions that have listed need to be changed.

Week 3 :
1. Include the topic like COVID 19 and vaccination since this is very interesting point and is needed nowadays.
2. Make sure each of the persona has their own role and strong characteristic.

Week 4 :
1. Most of the sentences of the problem statement and insights are not clear enough.
2. Can send out the survey form if we have finalized it.
3. Add one more male persona since infertility is both male and female topic.
4. Get the interview questions done after collected the data.

Week 5 :
1. The problem statement needs rephrase. 
2. The number of the survey responses are good but, we do not have enough data from the age group that we targeted.
3. Mr Mike suggest us to join some fertility Facebook group and get the admin's approval to post our survey. 
4. Due to the limitation of the target audience, we will need to ask for help from Dr Uma get some of her volunteer patient for interview.

Week 6 :
1.  The "How might we" is too general, we need to think deeper and be more descriptive.
2. Keep communicate with the SCE team every week to make sure all the information and progression from each side are clear.
3. The user journey map needs to be changed as it is not comprehensive.

Week 7 :
1. We need to reorganize the information flow of the presentation slide.
2. Summarize and simplify the user journey map instead of using the same one from Miro.
3. There are still a lot to improve the logo draft.

Week 8 :
Independent learning week. 

Week 9 :
1. The progression is a bit slow, we need to boost up. Prioritize the logo and website assets.
 
Week 10 :
1. The poster size are wrong, it should be using A3 instead of using A4.
2. The point size and the graphic element are too big.
3. We need to make sure we have the same art direction because the posters are actually designed by two persons.
4. Must decide either go for modern line design or curvy design.
5. Make sure the logo can be placed on a variety of different color backgrounds and it’s readable.
6. The website assets are nice, but we might need to look for other colour in case it does not fit in the website.

Week 11 :
1. For the logo, it still can’t be placed in a different colour background because the text will not be readable. We can have a look of the the example of Spotify to see how people create their logo that can be placed on many background.
2. Regarding to the posters design, the graphic element (curve) should refine it to be more elegant to make sure the design quality of the posters.
3. We should explore more variation and to push ourselves hard to come out more, especially the graphic team.

Week 12 :
1. The logotype needs to be white so that it is readable on pink background.
2. The waves in the posters still need to improve. We should make it looks modern and elegant.
3. The 3D space is just nice, we can proceed and go through some testing next week.
4. For animated videos, we did more than what we expected which is very good.

Week 13 :
1. the 3D spatial is fine, need to fix some bug.
2. come out with the design and decoration of the conference room.
3. make sure the design suits our persona. 

Week 14 :
1. The process of designing the website is not necessary to present to our client. We just need to present and explain the finalize version.
2. Some details of the logo needs to be refined, to make sure it is in a perfect circle.
3. Design team will require to help out with the waves of the website and also make sure the visual hierarchy is correct.
4. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the 3D space design because it is for everyone.
